Agronomist Kari Neis of Eudora KS was a guest speaker at the Middle School. She spoke to the 4th, 5th, and 7th grade Science classes about careers in Science. Kari specifically spoke about her field research and the technology that helps farmers grow a healthier crop. She reminded students that field crops not only supply food for people and livestock, but also produce ethanol and many products we use daily. Kari explained to students just what led her to the field of plant biology and the education she needed to attain her present job. The students enjoyed her equipment demonstration, media presentation, and learning about the cool little research 2 row combine and small tractor Kari drives. It was interesting to learn about a woman who enjoys farming and helping other farmers grow better crops. The students were amazed that Kari uses the scientific method every day in her work and wished they would have had more time to ask questions!
Here are some pictures of Kari and students. You can see how excited the students were talking with Ms. Neis.
